Words from the District Youth Representative

We are living in a modern world with an advanced technology and yet, this has brought about many problems. More inventions, yet more troubles, for instance, man has designed the cellphone that enables one to reach anyone at anytime, anywhere in the world, all one needs is airtime and dialling the correct number. But guess what!!! We communicate little and little. The internet is now accessible to almost everyone who owns a cellphone but much as we may try to reach our families, friends and loved ones with these inventions, our personal relationships are getting worser by the second, we communicate less and thus we understand each other little. Aeroplanes, fast cars, fast trains, you can name them, all these were invented to get us between places in good time but unfortunately for us, we have grown even far apart, we have lost touch of our inner man, the one who craves for fellowship with other men.
One wonders why I would bring up such an issue, it is because, my fellow Ys Youths and I don’t mean just those in Zambia but the world at large, communication, I mean efficient, clear and proper communication is what will enable us to make a difference. I read somewhere and I quote, “ There are four different kinds of people in the world:
1. Those who do know and know they know-They are wise, follow them;
2. Those who do know, but know not they know - They are asleep, wake them;
3. Those who know not but know they know not-They are simple, teach them; and finally
4. Those who know not and know not they know not-They are foolish, leave them!
When we improve our communication, begin to understand each other and ourselves better, then we are on the road to proactivity and efficiency.
Let us not be stagnant, we are a youth group on the move. Let us actively participate in order to make our movement more relevant to the aspirations, expectations and well-being of our communities. Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9,NKJV)
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
Until next month, May God Almighty richly bless you all.

Theme:LOVING GOD
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbour as yourself,” Luke 10: 27.
We love God because He first loved us. God is love and all His followers must have this quality to qualify to be called His children. As christians we are the reflection of God and hence should love one another as God loves us.
God showed His love for us by sending His one and only begotten son on earth to die for our sins. John 3: 16
Love is defined in so many ways but according to 1st Corinthians 13: 4 love is patient, kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Loving God is all about living your life for God. Dying to self and flesh and living for God meaning denying all the pleasures of the flesh and carrying the cross of Jesus. In Matthew 16: 24 “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it”
As a child of God, the principles of God are the basics of christianity. The commandments of God are the principles that are to be obeyed. By obeying His commands, one is showing the love for God
HOW DO YOU SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR GOD
As the Y’s Youth club our objective is to help the vulnerable, provide the necessary needs of life to the community.
Loving God is not about words but actions, as the saying goes. Actions speak louder than words. Showing our love for God is done in so many ways which are contained in the commandments of God.
(i) Obeying His commandments is the beginning of a righteous life and the whole duty of man,Ecclesiastes 12:13
(ii) Giving your time. -Spare your time for sharing His word with others, helping the less priviledged in our society -To praise His name and study His word.
-Doing His work
Build a relationship with God by establishing a relationship with Him, you get to increase your love from one level to another. The more time you spend with God, the more knowledgeable you become and know Him even more.
We are the salt and light of the world and our whole duties are that we spread His word, giving direction, save souls, help the fatherless and widows (Matthew 5: 13-16).
As the Y’s Youth club, it’s our duty to give guidance to the world, by not only obeying His commands but by also living a righteous life and above all love God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you, (Matthew 6:33)
Loving God is mostly and mainly expressed by obeying His laws and doing His work willingly and not showing off to the world
God is love and that is the truth. Christianity, the genuine gospel of Jesus Christ, is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of truth. God expressed His love for us by His son Jesus Christ. What about you, how do you express your love for God?
Zambia Charters Four Youth Clubs
By: Racheal Kumwenda
The 28th day of November 2008 and indeed the 6th of December, 2008 are historical days in the Zambian Ys Youth Dom. Why!!!? It is because on the 28th day of November, 2008, the youth leaders of the International Association of the Ys Men’s Clubs/Movement gave witness to the chartering of Zambian Youth clubs namely: Lusaka, Kabwe, Ndola and Kitwe by affixing their signatures on the charter certificates and on the 6th of December at Norfred House YMCA Hotel, Kitwe-Zambia, Africa South East saw about 47 youths in attendance others travelling for about 5 good hours to get to the venue. This marked an historical event for the Ys Men’s Movement in Zambia, Africa and the International Association at large.
Let us embrace this blessing. We have been called to service and as long as we stick together, we do everything together, we will perform wonders, therefore-Let us remain united for in Unity, there is Strength.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We are committed to our mission which states that: The International Association of Ys Men’s Clubs is a worldwide fellowship of persons of all faiths working together in mutual respect and affection, and with a common loyalty to the YMCA, striving through active service to develop, encourage and provide leadership to build a better world for all mankind.

CLUB NEWS
Some Kitwe youth club members on the 28th of August participated in a YMCA organised inter-branch quiz contested by Central, Kamatipa, Mindolo, Wusakile and Chamboli branches and the Ys youths representing central were Richard M. Sampa-IPCP, Banabas Sompa-Director of Membership and DYR Racheal M. Kumwenda and the trio scooped the first position with Wusakile coming second. It was a great experience as it allowed for interaction with other youths and information exchange, hoping the same would be repeated in other clubs.

OUR VISION

OUR MOTTO
The Motto of Ys Men is “To acknowledge The Duty that accompanies every Right.”
|
MOTTO
Ys Men adopted this motto because of the tendency of most people to insist upon the full enjoyment of their rights while remaining oblivious to the corresponding duties giving validity to such rights. The motto is a constant challenge to Ys men to pay less heed to the enforcement of their rights and more to the discovery and discharge of their corresponding duties-to transfer emphasis, from rights to duties.
Many are called, but few are chosen! Yet let us find comfort in Knowing that: The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happens to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
Many are called, but few are chosen! Yet let us find comfort in Knowing that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happens to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

To be a Ys Youth
Alisala Mulambya Jnr. |
By: Alisala Mulambya Jnr. Kitwe Club IPCT
Ys youth movement in Zambia was at its highest peak in 2007. At that moment, the clubs had quiet a large number of youths who were involved in the club activities of their respective sponsorig clubs. Most of these youths are either school leavers, college or university students, school pupils and not forgetting the working class youths. Most of the young people in the Ys Men Movement in Zambia are of the Kitwe Ys Youth Club which also recorded the highest attendance at the charter in 2008. The number has since reduced due to circumstances beyond our control involving moving into new towns and cities because of school others in search of work and other unknown reasons and yet other members simply choose not to turn up for meetings and it is the same story in Kabwe.
During the last Regional Convention and Youth Convocation held in Arusha, Tanzania, the youths were divided into different groups, discussing challenges which a young person and/ or youth faces in our modern society. It came to my attention that most youths are just interested in occupying particular positions of power without which they cease to be active.
Membership to all youths is free and is open to anyone of any faith and religion consisting of both men and women. No one will be denied membership because of race, sex, creed, religion, caste, colour or national origin. All are eligible to occupy any position in the organisation provided they agree fully with the vision, mission, motto, objectives and aims of our movement.
Unfortunately for us, when some youths join our movement, they come with the view to gaining and/or benefitting from the movement instead of putting in and thus they tend to stop soon as they realise that there is no financial gain coming their way. But what most of us do not realise is that, it helps us and shapes us into responsible citizens and able future leaders of tomorrow.
There is a wise common saying which teaches us youths to bring value to our various communities and society at large, not only in our homes but could apply even to our movement and that is-Charity begins at home.
MEMBERSHIP CONSERVATION
By IPDYR Andy B. Musunga, CP Ndola YYC 2009-10
For every club to exist, the existence of quality membership should be available. This quality membership is basically the willingness of either old or young to serve the community and the vulnerable people in society.
So how do we retain quality members in our various clubs?
I strongly believe that God created every person on earth for a purpose and it is from this belief that as members join our clubs, it is for a purpose and we should actively involve them in programmes and activities running in the club so that they can feel part and parcel, give them assignments, duties even just giving a vote of thanks at the end of the meeting.
We are there to nurture good leaders who in turn join the YMCA and contribute positevely to its growth. This should be in line with our motto “To acknowledge the duty that accompanies every right.” Social gatherings, fellowships, TOFs, not forgetting fun are other ways of retaining members. The spirit of fellowship should be encouraged as muc as possible, thereby creating a stronger bond with each other.
They say “All work. No play, makes John a dull boy.” As young people, we should have fun together such as braiis, picnics, induction ceremonies, camps, parties, etc to help us create a base for interaction. Remember, a friend is precious, like a child, you can’t buy them.
Let us ensure that everyone is treated with love and care, made to feel at home, if we are to see them tomorrow. We are the current and future leaders of our clubs and the nation at large. It is more blessed to give than to receive for God loves a cheerful giver. As Ys Youths, it is our responsibility to care for the underprivileged in our society. Do not just expect to gain from it, but to give. Yes, a question may be asked: What is the benefit of belonging to this unique service club?
Look out for the answer in the next issue.
Birthdays:
Let us join Idah Ilunga as she celebrates her birthday on the 14. of September. May God bless you with not only years to your life but more also, life to your years. You are a blessing to all those who know you.

Kitwe Visits Chande Baptist Orphanage Centre.
The Kitwe Ys Mens Club on the 29th of August donated some packets of sweets, cases of juices, corn snacks, biscuits and plastic cups
It was a fruitful visit as it put a smile on those wonderful childrens’ faces and right after the visit the children had a party. This is an extension of our service to the community. We need to share the little we have and not await the lot we may never get for yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never be ours, it is not promised. Let us restore our relevance to our communities.
